Principle of operation

It works quite interesting. For starters, these are actual VR glasses, not a smartphone stand. It allows the same as, for example, HTC Vive . However, to keep track of its position in space, it does not need a set of cameras, or any other gadgets.

Its positioning occurs with the help of sensors and cameras built into the helmet itself. It will take a couple of minutes to set up, to roughly outline the size of the room.

External controllers are also monitored by the helmet itself. To do this, they have a rim of bright LEDs, to which their position is tied. If they disappear from the visibility zone of the helmet, then their position begins to be determined by means of built-in sensors.

As a result, everything works smoothly, and quite accurately. At the same time, it is not necessary to hang the room with a bunch of snot and related cameras. Definitely a score!

Housing materials and dimensions

The case is made of medium quality plastic. The whole design is aimed at sound economy without frills, everything is as it should be. Where you want it to be soft, soft, and vice versa.

Dimensions also please with their modesty. It is smaller than the wive, or oculus. It has a pleasant rounded shape, and in general does not infuriate either with its appearance or with its size.

Equipment, appearance and design of the device

The device comes in a beautiful, colorful and weighty package. The package looks like this:

Appearance and design in general are on top, as you probably already guessed from the photo. All the necessary soft elements are in their places, it sits comfortably on the head. Special design excesses were not delivered. Everything is done in a strictly functional style. Therefore, boasting of a sci-fi stray from outer space will not work. This is a separate plus.

The controllers are borrowed from the HTC Vive. This is their merit. The design is very good and comfortable.

This seems like the best solution to me. The first time will thoroughly infuriate the hoops at the top. This is a sacrifice that will have to be endured for the absence of excess rubbish hung in the corners.

Ergonomics

As said above, the controllers are cleverly stolen, along with all the benefits. There are no tactilely repeating controls, everything is done competently and flawlessly.

The glasses are light, so they do not cause discomfort when playing games, watching 360 videos, or even 3D movies.

Also, I consider the absence of built-in headphones a plus.

Controls

I will not paint controllers here, because it will drag on for a long time, and in fact, it is pointless. In addition to them, you can use the gamepad from the Xbox, or PS4, through the emulator. There is also the option to use a normal keyboard and mouse, however this is a pain path.

Focusing and adjusting the distance between the eyes occurs, as always, by means of twists.

Image quality

Image quality is excellent. Of course, the technology itself is still at the level where there would be more frames and more points, but at the moment, I would not say that it is somehow worse than its competitors. New game experience, in all its glory.

Tuning tips and adjustments

I won’t go into too much detail about adjustment. Everything is standard here. You need to adjust the position of the lenses so that you can see everything well. With the setup, things are not much more complicated. The main feature of the helmet is ease of use, with which it copes.

The helmet is calibrated automatically when the required software is installed. Everything you need will be detailed on the installer screen.

First you need to update your Windows to the Fall Creators Update version, I do not ignore anything that the bootloader wants to shake. Among the necessary software will be “Mixed Reality Portal”.

You need to go into it and go through a quest with various instructions. Among them will be determining the configuration of the PC, connecting the helmet, and outlining the game room with the helmet.

After completing the quest, you will enter the Windows Mixed Reality interface. In this shell lies one of the most interesting features of VR, but at the same time, the most stupid. The interface is implemented very creatively.

This is a house that looks deserted at first, but in the course of use it becomes clogged with all sorts of useful garbage, in the form of icons. Everything you can use

What applications can be installed

Games from steam, or places not so licensed. Here you have a lot of room for maneuver. Points allow you to use more combat software than toys, but so far this software simply does not exist, or there is very little. The one that is, allows, for example, to draw in space. What to play in VR

For today I recommend SuperHot. A great shooter that reveals many possibilities of virtual reality. It was not so interesting to play on the monitor, because of the possibility to completely stop. As you understand, it’s extremely difficult not to move while wearing glasses (I remind you that time in the game goes depending on the speed of the player’s movement).

As well as beloved by many connoisseurs of the Fallout 4 VR series, this is still the same game, but adapted for VR helmet and controllers.
